STAFF WITH PASSENGER PIGEON

Carved wood, 24k gold leaf, bronze staff

69" H x 7" W x 4.5" D

I read something that moved me very deeply about the passenger pigeon and that is why I carved the piece. When the early settlers arrived in the new world there were countless numbers of passenger pigeons. They were thoughtlessly and ruthlessly shot until the last one died in a zoo in 1915. She is like the poster child for extinction in some profound way.
